American Share Market
Bulk landscape materials
A quarry, a landscape yard, a sawmill, or a tree service can open a free stand. They quote the price and get paid on their own account. This market does not hold the material or the freight.
Sold by the cubic yard, or by the ton with a scale ticket. A dump truck needs room and firm ground. Call 811 before you dig. Weights below are approximate, not a scale ticket.
- Mulch
- Wood chips
- Gravel and crushed stone
- Rip-rap
- Sand
- Topsoil
- Compost
- Fill dirt
- Pavers and wall block
- Bagged products
Coverage
Cubic yards equal square feet times depth in inches, divided by 324. Ten percent is added when compaction is on.
About 10.2 cubic yards. About 8.1 tons if the density holds. A pickup is often 1 to 2 yards. A tandem is often much more. Those are not a quote.
Grades
Names change by state. #57 is often used for drainage. Crusher run, including what Virginia calls 21A, is often a driveway base. Stone dust is often a paver base. Rip-rap is for erosion. No photo is shown, because a stock photo would pretend to be a local pile.
A paddock pad is often geotextile, coarse stone, then a fines layer. NRCS practice 561 is the conservation practice. EQIP may help. Check your local office. Gravel driveway plan · Paddock pad · French drain
